Open Doors - Art Skills Drawing Club (National Civil War Centre)

Come and learn exciting drawing skills with our artist in residence Vanessa Stone. Vanessa will teach you all sorts of new ways to work with pencil, gouache acrylic and also share her wide knowledge of how to use composition and design skills in your art. Inspiration will come from lovely objects from the museum collection. 18th November: Exploiting pencils - looking at all the different ways a humble pencil can make marks and effects. 16th December: Composition - focusing on its use in planning art works, and tricks to apply it to observational drawing. 20th January: Resist techniques to create contrast and texture, using wax crayons and masking fluid. 17th February: Gouache vs acrylic - how they differ so much and how to use them 16th March: Let’s get inky - embracing the fluid qualities of drawing ink. PLEASE NOTE: This course is for ADULTS ONLY. You are welcome to book for all 5 sessions, though each session is standalone and can be booked individually. There will be opportunities to take breaks during the session. Participants are warmly invited to visit our 1920 Café for refreshments, or are welcome to bring their own to consume in the studio.
