Our friendly team serves light lunches, homemade cakes, gluten-free bakes and quality coffee, with free Wi-Fi available!

Whether you’re exploring Newark or visiting the theatre or National Civil War Centre, it’s a lovely place to pause for a bite to eat. The café takes its name from 1920, the year the Palace Theatre opened. In warmer weather, you can enjoy your refreshments in our courtyard.

We’re proud to showcase local produce with many of our ingredients coming from nearby suppliers, supporting Newark’s independent businesses and giving you a real taste of the area.

The café is accessible and family-friendly, with step-free access by lift, an accessible toilet and plenty of room for wheelchairs and pushchairs. 

Highchairs, baby-changing facilities and an affordable children’s menu are also available.

The bar

Our bar opens at least one hour before every performance, serving alcoholic and soft drinks, sweets, snacks and ice creams. You can also pre-order interval drinks before the show, so your break is as relaxing as possible. For some busier performances, we open the atmospheric Byron Room bar upstairs too.
